The Céide Coast Atlantic Way will take place in Ballycastle, which is located along the North Mayo coast, on Saturday. September 21st, 2024.  This race will be run on the day in conjunction with the 10k Coastal Challenge.

Race pack collection will be available in the Community Hall in Ballycastle, which is situated on the Killala end of the village on the R314, on Friday 20th September from 6pm to 9pm, and Saturday 21st September from 8am to 11am.

Race day

The race will start at 12pm sharp. All participants of the Céide Coast Atlantic Way will be transported by coach on the morning of the race from the village of Ballycastle to the Céide Fields Visitor Centre / cliffs where the race will commence.

10K ROUTE

The 10k departs from the Céide Fields Visitor Centre and follows the coastal route back towards Ballycastle along the spectacular Céide Cliffs. At Doonfeeny the route leaves the main road to do a challenging but scenic loop, passing the ruins of Doonfeeny Church and the magnificent Doonfeeny Standing Stone, one of Ireland’s tallest before turning to overlook Ballycastle Bay and Downpatrick Head. Upon returning to the main road, the route finishes with a long but gradual ascent through pretty Ballycastle village, finishing at Ballycastle Community Hall where refreshments will await you.

Céide Coast Atlantic Way Route

The Céide Coast Atlantic Way route will commence at the spectacular Céide Fields Visitor Centre and will follow the coast road, passing Ballycastle beach before proceeding to the famous Downpatrick Head.

The race will enter the headland where the runner will get a chance to run 500m off-road, and opportunity to view the spectacular Dún Briste sea stack (weather dependent). From there, the race will return to the main road and will finish in the idyllic village of Ballycastle, where a warm welcome and refreshments will await you in the Community Hall.
